Print to PDF is the usual workaround -- when does it fail, and what to do instead
Print to PDF can help create a fixed copy, but it may omit fields or markups when the viewer print settings exclude them. Check the print options and review the output, or flatten a copy and verify it.
PDF print dialogs can separate form fields, comments, and stamps into different print choices. If the output is missing content, first check those options and print from a desktop PDF reader. Then open the resulting PDF and inspect the pages before sending it.
Choose the right method
- Use Print to PDF when you need a printable copy and have checked that the print settings include the content you need.
- Use flattening when you want form fields to stop being interactive while keeping a PDF copy. Keep the original and verify the result.
- For certificate-signed PDFs, preserve the signed original. Saving a digitally signed PDF can invalidate its signature.
PDF Flattener can flatten AcroForm fields in a copy. Review the downloaded file before sharing, especially if the document contains signatures or annotations.
